Copyright Registration
The term copyright is used for the rights of creators over their original works, especially artistic, literary, and similar works, no matter what the mode or form of composition, function or purpose, and no matter what medium and technical procedures are used, and no matter where the work originated or how it is disseminated.Since copyright is often used as a broadening enforcement tool of copyright law (especially the Berne Convention’s Automatic Protection Principle), copyright also refers to any original work of authorship.
Copyright protects authored and tangible creative works – ie, poetry, music, drama, novels and all manner of visual, photographic and painting artworks.
Once you put your copyright on the official record by registering it, you get the standing to sue anyone who infringes or otherwise misuses your copyrighted work.
To infringe copyright means to use a copyright work without permission from the copyright owner. You won’t be the copyright owner until you’ve taken official ownership of the copyright. You can’t use the law to stop people from using your work without permission. To sue infringers, you need to be the copyright owner.
